Principal - Leslie Huggins

Welcome to Waccamaw Elementary, home of the Wildcats and The Waccamaw Way! I am proud to be in my ninth year as principal of our wonderful school. WES is full of the greatest group of students, parents, teachers and staff around. Waccamaw is extra special to me since I have served first as WES instructional coach, later as an assistant principal and now as principal. I have been here for almost 15 years, and I am very excited to embark on our journey together this year!

I am a South Carolina native, a product of the SC public school system, attending public schools in Irmo, Anderson, Gaffney, and Florence.  I am a graduate of West Florence High School, The College of Charleston, and Coastal Carolina University.  I also hold my National Board Teacher Certification. My husband and I have three sons, and we enjoy outdoor adventures, traveling and spending time together.  I began my educational career as a special education teacher in Charleston, SC and I have spent the last twenty-four years with Horry County Schools. My twenty-eight years of experience include roles as classroom teacher, district learning specialist, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal. I look forward to learning and growing with our wildcats this year and putting our 2025-26 school year theme into action, “STRONGER TOGETHER!”. In partnership with Waccamaw parents, teachers, and community, we will equip students to become Listeners, Learners, and Leaders by teaching them “The Waccamaw Way.” I AM A WILDCAT! 🐾
